Recap: Labor of Love Finale

Hey everybody!  We made it to the finale and I couldn’t wait to give you my thoughts.  It’s time for Kristy to make the hardest decision of her life.  I kinda have an idea on who she’s going to chose but you never know until you know.  Just from the preview be prepared for a lot of crying!

Super happy Kristin approves of the finales two men and says Kristy is about to settle in with the father of her children.

The themes of the finale are:

Kyle is young - at 38 is he really ready to start a family?

And Stewart checks all the boxes and is ready to be a father now.

Kristy is concerned with the chemistry she has with Stewart and mentions it several times during the show.  If you didn’t have chemistry with him, how did he get so far in the process?

Each guy has a two day date with Kristy and will meet her family.

Stewart is up first.  Stewart’s mom says she always gets a phone call from him when he’s falling in love.  He says things like I’m not sure I should say this but this could be the one, this is the one.  Exactly how many calls have you gotten from him about “the one.”  Kristy and Stewart meet at the Naval Pier and they ride the ferris wheel and have dinner on a yacht.  Kristy is open to moving to another city and is not tied to Chicago.  They talk about timeline and Stewart is ready to start a family now.  He says when they walk out after the elimination of Kyle they will see her doctor which is now their doctor and move the process forward.  He considers her his family now, she’s the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up.  They would be adding a person to their family.  His friends said he is different in a good way when he’s with her. Kristy now says she has different chemistry with Stewart.

Next up meeting the parents.  Stewart comes with gifts, flowers for Kristy’s mom and sister and White Sox tickets for her dad adding they should go to a game. Kristy’s mom announces a surprise and Stewart’s mom and grandmother join the group.  The families are getting along great.  Grandma says is obvious Stewart is ready to be a dad since he’s going through this process, ya think? There’s a video of Kristy and Stewart complete with baby pictures and clips from their journey on the show.  Everyone loves it and a few are crying.  Kristy’s sister and brother in law take Stewart away for a chat and Stewart’s mom and grandmother are with Kristy.  Stewart is grilled on his 5 year plan.  It included not being attached to a location, he’s attached to Kristy.  He is ready to have kids because of his age and can’t wait much longer.

Kristy’s sister really likes Stewart and likes that he wants to take care of her even though Kristy can take care of herself.  Stewart’s mom like Kristy.  Stewart declares this was the best day of his life and he chooses Kristy, there’s no one else to choose! He takes her back to the hotel and they have a good night kiss.

Next date with Kyle.  Kristy wonders if they are really on the same timeline about having kids.  They have a city tour on a trolley and dinner at a restaurant.  It’s cold outside and the sit at the Buckingham Fountain, she says Kyle has to imagine the fountain on…. Why would you chose to go there in cold weather? Kyle says they are pretty lucky to have each other and that he loves her.  Kristy does’t not say it back, she’s more like oh, you do, do you? She says they have great chemistry and she can’t stop kissing him.

At dinner she asks about pressure from his family about having kids.  He doesn’t have any because his brother has kids so his mom is happy to have grandkids but of course she wants more.  Kristy says she has pressure because of her age.  She’s had a hard few years including the shame of her failed marriage.  She feels good about them being a couple.

Stewart can’t see Kristy with Kyle because he’s essentially boring, not thrilling, not exciting, not a threat nor scary.

Kristy’s mom says she’s showing the world that it’s not too late.  Is that what Kristy is showing or that she feels so much pressure to have a kid she went on a reality show to meet strangers to have a baby with.

Kyle is very nervous about meeting Kristy’s parents because he’s never met the parents of anyone he’s dated.  At 38, you haven’t met any parents, what does that say about your dating life.  At the parents house are Kristy’s other sister, Kyle’s mom, step dad and brother.  The families are getting along great and Kristy’s dad speaks to Kyle alone, wanting to know how he will support a family, Kyle assures him that he’s financially stable.  Kristy’s sister asks what his perfect Sunday would be - Kids, Park, Dogs, Dinner.

Her mom like Kyle, her dad thinks he’s a nice gentleman.  His mom sees a positive change in Kyle when he’s with Kristy and she wants more grandkids.  When they are leaving Kristy says she hopes it’s not the last time they are together….hmmmmm. They return to the hotel for a goodnight kiss.

Kristy meets with Kristin.  Is Kyle ready for kids now?  Stewart is everything she’s asked for including being ready to be a father.  She has emotionally opened up to both of them in different ways and this decision is so hard, but if it was easy, it wouldn’t be right.  Kristen leaves so Kristy can make her decision and wants to be invited to the baby shower.

This is the hardest breakup for Kristy in her life.  Stewart is confident they’ll be together, Kyle knows he’s in love with her.  Both guys feel they would be very hurt if not chosen.

Kristy goes to Stewart’s room first…. Well that’s a red flag.  Even though Stewart checks all the boxes its just not enough because she feels like she’s falling in love with Kyle.  Stewart is disappointed but wants the best for her.  He’s very emotional in the confessional, like ugly cry emotional.  But he declares that he will love again.

Kyle is waiting in the rain or sleet on that bench by the fountain.  Kristy shows up on the trolley and is prepared to walk away and parent alone if Kyle is not ready.  Why is this still a question, he is on the show to be a baby daddy.  Kyle says he ready to start a family in the next year and she chooses him.  She says she’s been falling for him the entire time.

They visit with the doctor and based on their fertility tests, he encourages them to try naturally.

Well that’s it….. Kristy chooses Kyle.  What do you think of her choice? One of Kristy’s sisters says she worried about her and wants to protect her.  I would to if in the past couple of years, my sister was in a terrorist attack, got married and divorced 6 months later and decided to go on a reality show to find a baby daddy.  I say Stewart, you and the other guys really dodged a bullet.  While I wish Kyle and Kristy luck on their kid journey, I hope they don’t think it will be easy.  Especially now, during a pandemic. I would love to see a reunion show, to see where they are now.  You know if there is one, I’ll be back with my commentary.

It’s shameful we live in a society where there’s so much pressure to have a baby that a woman would go on a show like this.  It’s very different than a dating show because you’re potentially bringing a kid into a situation they didn’t ask to be a part of.  Hey Stewart, good luck on your journey.  If that family thing doesn’t work out and you find you’re happier with your childfree life, shoot me an email and come on the podcast!

Shout out to my subscribers!  I had lots of fun traveling down this road with you.  Oh and I guess Kristy’s dad is taking Kyle to that White Sox game.

We've made it to the end! Who will Kristy choose?
