COVID 19 - How are you surviving during these uncertain times
Hey DINKs and SINKs family! I wanted to check in with you. I have podcasts ready for publish but they involve travel and other topics I don’t feel are appropriate at this time.
I live in New Jersey where we have a stay at home executive order issued by the governor. I have been working from home for the last 2 weeks. If I’m being honest I hate it. I don’t mind being at home, I don’t like being told to stay at home. Also, I don’t have a job where working from home is optimal. That being said, I want to shout out the essential workers: medical professionals, grocery store and transit workers. I’m staying at home because you can’t. I’m doing my part to help slow the spread. If you are not an essential worker and live in an area with a stay at home order, please listen to the appropriate authorities.
How are you dealing with COVID 19? If you’re not an essential worker, what are you doing at home?
Watching:
Me, I’ve been watching streaming services. Netflix…. Have you seen Tiger King - wow that was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. Amazon Prime… Making the Cut with Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn… I love Project Runway and this is the grad school version. Hulu… Little Fires Everywhere - I read the book but I’m not too sure about this series version.
Listening:
Well I know you’re listening to podcasts! Are you listening to music too? Several DJs and artists have been doing Instagram Live sets to connect with their fans, Last weekend, I listened to DJ D-Nice. He spun records (dating myself) for 8 hours straight! It was epic, lightening in a bottle.
Reading:
What books are you reading? My April book club book is Bad Blood, Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou. The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates is also on tap.
Eating:
I’m a snacker, so when I’m home I don’t actually eat real meals. My snack of choice, PopCorners and flavored honey sticks. I’m thankful I don’t have kids because they would starve. Are you supporting local restaurants offering take out and delivery?
Doing:
Are you exercising? As you know I have a Peloton and I’m trying to ride or do an app class every day. They’ve added some dance cardio classes. Good thing I’m alone at home because my dancing skills are suspect. What about your hobbies? Are there any you can do from home? I’m a crocheter so I’ve been keeping my hands busy.
Connecting:
Are you using video meeting services to have virtual happy hours with your friends? My book club had a virtual meeting using Zoom and it was a lot of fun and just like when we’re together in person, we went on various tangents away from the book. At least we didn’t have to drive home. I’ve also connected with friends using the Houseparty app, FaceTime and Facebook Messenger Video Calls.
If you are an essential worker, how are you taking care of yourself? Please let your friends and family know how they can support you. You are human and no one can handle this alone. If you know an essential worker, ask how you can support them. Send a text, send a meal, say thank you.
Since the DINKs and SINKs family is not homeschooling, have you heard from your friends with kids. I have, most want to sell their children and are learning the teacher was right about their behavior. My friends who used to say “When are you going to have kids?” are now saying “You should be happy you don’t have kids” and I reply yes, I’m more than happy.
What are you watching?
What are you listening to?
What are you reading?
What are you eating?
What are you doing?
How are you connecting with friends?
How grateful are you to have made the decision not to have kids?
Have you check in on friends with kids?
If you don’t live in an area with a stay at home order, how is life different for you?
