Recap: Labor of Love Episode 2
The following contains spoilers.
Ok, I’m back with my Labor of Love Commentary. Last week on Labor of Love we said goodbye to Tale and Philip. Who will leave on this week’s episode?
When the episode opens with Budge talking about being a conservative man looking for an American girl… you have to think he may be on the chopping block later…
The guys have a camping challenge and none of them are dressed for it because their note said to dress nice. Hard bottom shoes are not cutting it in the woods. The get a primer from a “Park Ranger” to let them know what to do if the encounter wildlife, and in this case bears. I don’t know much about Atlanta but they look like they are in someone’s backyard, not a conservation and I don’t see Joe Exotic or Carol Baskin snooping around.
Budge says he’s not really into camping and wants to leave. Budge again…. At this point I’m definitely thinking he’s not going to make it through this episode. Each of the guys have a one on one date in front of Kristy’s glamping tent. Here’s where the bear comes in…. As a test of how they would protect a family they set up an appearance of a bear. Since it’s fairly dark, most can’t tell initially it’s a person in a costume. During the dates, most of the men follow the instructions they were given by that ranger dude and protect Kristy from harm, some more hilariously than others. Kristy has to act scared 13 times…. She’s no actress and if you didn’t know the bear was fake you could have gauged it from her silly surprised reactions. Here’s where we learn Angelo is a snitch…. There’s always one, that person who thinks they can up their own capital by telling on everybody else. He lets her know that some guys don’t want to be here, some are forgetting her name. I’ve sure if they showed the entire segment he had something to say about every guy. This leads to Kristy confronting Alan about forgetting her name. The challenge is over, Kristy is saved and thinks Matt, who is a professional wrester and Alan were the best protecters. Maybe all the sperm give Alan supernatural protection power from people in costumes.
When the guys get back to the house, they start talking about the snitch… Angelo is silent. Hey Angelo, you know they record everything on these shows and it was only a matter of time before you are found out.
Kristy has to choose two men for one/one dates. She choosing Marcus and Matt. She also has a chat with Budge about him not wanting to be there. Budge again…. Yeah you’re going to be eliminated. Budge reinforces his conservative values of having a routine, going to bed early. He also says you don’t have to change how you live when you have children. Spoken by a man who has never been around kids…. He also doesn’t want to be an old dad, crawling around on the floor at 50. By the way, Budge is 44, yeah you’re still going to be the senior citizen at the high school graduation.
Budge returns the group and the topic of the snitch comes up again…. Hey Angelo, are you listening or just biting your nails.
Kristy goes on a date with Matt, she feels the most comfortable with him and he nailed the bear challenge. Kristy was in Nice during the terrorist attacks in 2016 and that gave her clarification on what mattered and that’s why she chose to do this show. She feels the chemistry with Matt and and sees his sincerity. Kirsty says this is the most romantic date she’s ever been on…. And cue the fireworks and the goodbye kiss. Matt declares he could be looking at the mother of his children. Matt, that’s the premise of the show… did you not read your application? Side note, Kristy’s animal print robe/jacket thing is hideous.
Kristy’s next data is with Marcus and they go to an Atlanta Hawks game, they are in a suite complete with personalized Future Mom and Dad jerseys. On paper Marcus is at the total package, you know because he’s a doctor. They end up on the kiss cam and there’s an awkward side temple kiss. According to Kristy, it’s effortless with Marcus and their date ends with a proper goodbye kiss.
Finally, back at the house Angelo comes clean about being the snitch… I guess he remembered there are cameras. The guys give him an extra side eye and now it’s time for the elimination.
On the chopping block..
Angelo, Budge (shocking!), Mario and Matt
Angelo is up first. She needs him to stop snitching because she wants to get to know him more. He agrees and the other guys are not happy that he’s back in the house.
Budge is next. Since he’s not willing to compromise for family life that can get messy and unpredictable at times, she doesn’t see them starting a family… See ya Budge.
Mario, your turn. His comments about wanting boys bothered Kristy because she comes from a family of girls. Bye Mario!
Matt is last. She hasn’t stopped thinking about their date and she’s overwhelmed at what a great time they had. Of course, Matt goes back to the house.
Budge and Mario, good luck on your journey. If that family thing doesn’t work out and you find you’re happier with your childfree life, shoot me an email and come on the podcast!
And there you go…. The latest episode of Labor of Love, airing Thursdays on Fox. What do you think? Should Angelo have been eliminated? Will Budge find that perfect family life he’s looking for?
