Recap: Labor of Love Episodes 4-5

Labor of Love Episode 4 and 5 recaps:

I’m back with my Labor of Love recaps - Dang y’all really want to hear what I have to say and I appreciate it!!  Thank you for continuing to share these episodes with your friends.

This is a twofer! I’ll be recapping Episodes 4 and 5.

With the elimination of Angelo, Jason and Walker, the guys realize those who haven’t taken this journey seriously are going home so they all have to step up their games.

After Kristy’s brief marriage, she thought she was doomed to never find love.  Melodramatic much? Kristy likes having Kristin as a friend to guide her through this process.  Um, Kristen is an actress and she’s being paid to be your “friend” LOL

There is no drill this week so Keith is making a meal for Kristy.  Stewart’s talks about his father history, how he wants to be a better father but fears he will be like his dad and is not sure if it’s nature vs nurture.

Alan steals Keith’s idea and takes a stew he made over to Kristy and Keith is MAD.  Kristy is impressed with Alan’s meal and they talk about the name mixup and he pleads his case for fatherhood.  On his way back to the house Kyle warns Alan that Keith is upset.  So Alan goes to Keith, they talk and Alan claims he didn’t know Keith was making Kristy a meal and didn’t steal his idea.  Keith doesn’t want to be the angry guy in the house (too late!).  Says he can control his emotions.  Keith’s mom says he has a strong will.

Kristy comes over for her date with Alan in a painters jumpsuit.  Keith is annoyed that his still hasn’t had a 1:1 date.  Alan’s dad thinks he needs a girl who can kick his ass.

This is the get dirty date.  There are 2 cars, let it go and future.  They spray paint words on each car and smash them at the end.  Destroy the past, crush the future.  Kristy realizes she can have fun with Alan.  When he talks about the other guys, Kristy tries to bring the conversation back to them - you know family over bromance.  He suggests night cap.  Turns out Keith decided to make his chicken dinner anyway and leave it for Kristy for when she returns from her date with Alan.  A few questions -  why is the food on the ground? how long was it sitting out there?  He could borrow a portable tray table from the production staff? Is that a bottle of hot sauce next to the plate? I know I wouldn’t want to eat food that’s been on the ground for who knows how long. Seeing the meal, Alan cancels the night cap and give Kristy a hug goodnight.  She thought he should have come in for a drink.  He let Keith win the night.  Or maybe it was his guilt for stealing Keith’s idea.  Alan’s consideration for the other guy’s feelings was a turn off from Kristy - did she want him to throw them under the bus, because she didn’t like that either.  Remember Angelo….

Side bar - there is one shot where Matt is helping Gary get ready for his date by shaving his back and arms.  I didn’t need to see that.

Gary’s date was a circus theme in the backyard, complete with screaming kids.  Turns out it’s a neighborhood kid’s birthday party Kristy is hosting for the next 3 hours.  Thanks for letting us know “neighborhood mom”. A three hour birthday party.  I’d rather have dental work done.  Gary goes into “Dad Mode”.  There’s face painting, blowing up balloons and the kids love him.  Gary’s mom wants him to meet the love of his life so they can have more grandkids.  I guess grandma and grandpa don’t care how the relationship comes about as long as grandkids show up.  Another sad, selfish grandkid push.  Gary is super patient with these kids painting his face…. Let me call my dentist.  After the kids leave, they go into the bounce house.  I know I’m dating myself but the movie Revenge of the Nerds came to mind.  Ha!

The guys have to interrupt the date for a parenting game but Gary thought the date would end with dinner instead he’s stuck with the cake.  The game is a bunch of kid related questions.  Matt is not here for it.  He is clearly bored and doesn’t want to participate and Kristy thinks he’s being a poor sport.

Kyle steals Kristy away and takes her upstairs and they play a blindfolded food tasting game.  I love how these guys think they created these dates…. Um it was the producers…. Ha!

Trent plays a boombox outside Kristy’s window and they have a Texas Two Step lesson.  Kristy appreciates his offer to get to know her and be there for her.

Elimination time!

Trent, Alan, Keith and Matt are up.  Kristy feels like the eliminations are becoming more like real break ups.

Trent is up first - he wants a 1:1 date with her before he get booted and she likes that they are different.  Trent is saved.

Matt - He’s one of the good ones but she’s felt no connection with him recently and feels he’s stop taking this seriously and she didn’t like his answer about her staying home to parent their children. Both are emotional and crying. She doesn’t see them starting a family together.  Matt is gracious in his departure and wishes Kristy the best.

Alan - they had a great time on the date but his empathy and compassion for other people, not her has turned her off.  She doesn’t see them starting a family.  Alan stand by his actions, Dang all the sperm, gone.

Keith - he’s trying hard to get out of the friend zone and she appreciates his efforts and wants to keep dating.  When he returns, the guys are concerned about his temper.

Matt and Alan, good luck on your journey.  If that family thing doesn’t work out and you find you’re happier with your childfree life, shoot me an email and come on the podcast!

And there you go…. Episode 4 of Labor of Love, airing Thursdays on Fox.  What do you think?  Should Kristy be concerned about Keith’s temper?  Did Matt give up too soon?

Now on to Episode 5

Last week’s elimination was about chemistry.  Kyle, Trent and Keith haven’t had 1:1 dates with Kristy.  This week’s drill is physical!  Keith is a jock and a gym owner so he’s ready! They met Joe, a former marine and these guys are pumped!  They pair up.  Keith and Gary, Stewart and Marcus, Trent and Kyle.  Turns out it’s not a physical competition like everyone thought, it’s a contraction challenge.  They are going to hook them up to these machines that simulate labor pains and there’s a OB/GYN to explain the process.  Why are these guys doing this? Do you really need to experience contractions to show you’re going to be a good father, test your mental toughness…to show empathy as a partner.

We suffer through each guy playing the roles of “mom and dad”.  There is a bell if the pain is too much and you want to tap out.  No one rings the bell.  Stewart is the stand out in both roles and he gets a trophy - sorry a sippy cup….

Kristy picks two guys for dates:  Trent and Kyle… sorry Keith, I’m starting to think you should pack you bags.  Now he feels he has to “do something”.

First date is with Trent at Six Flags and they have the park to themselves.  Rollercoasters, games, food!  Trent’s wants lots of kids, his mom has Parkinson’s and he wants her to be able to see her grandkids.

There’s a flash dance mob and at the end Trent gets a kiss.  Perfect end to a fun date. Kristy thinks Trent brings out her lighter side and he’s ready to start a family now.  They return to the house with all their amusement park goodies.  Stewart leaves flowers on Kristy’s doorstep.  Is that one his other skills, floral arranging.  Or was that the producers again.

Kristy comes over and they use a face morphing app to see what their kids would look like.  She sits next to Stewart - everyone notices and no one is happy.  They are holding hands, Kristy is leaning in to him.  Marcus looks like he’s going to explode.  Btw all the morphed kids looked terrible. Stewart tells the story of his birth on how he came out holding the IUD and Kristy is eating it up.  She takes Stewart aside to thank him for the flowers and Marcus is sooo jealous.  It’s pretty clear Stewart is a front runner.  Keith interrupts with food…. More food from Keith  During their conversation, he talks about his fiery side, liking to stir the pot and not caring what others think.  Red flags are waving and alarms are going off.  Kristy’s experience with fiery personalities has not work out in the past.  Kyle interrupts because it’s time for their romantic date in front of the fireplace at Kristy’s house.

This date is basically googley eyes and a few kisses.  The guys who are not on a date basically stalk the windows since the houses are next door to each other.  Marcus is writing Kristy a song, also while looking out the window.  Trent is worried because previous guys who had great dates and still went home.  Kyle and Kristy return to the guys house and Kristy wants to continue her conversation with Keith.  Uh oh….. I hope you remembered to pack your toothbrush.  She wants to clarify this fiery side.  Keith explains his confrontations with Matt and Alan and Kristy is not pleased.  She decides to send Keith home BEFORE the elimination because anger and a temper are deal breakers!  Whoa.  She wouldn’t even let you hang around for a few more hours.  Keith wishes her an amazing life and he’s going to do his thing because he’s only 38 and Kristy is 41 so he’s got time.

It’s elimination time!

Kristy tells Kristin she had to send Keith home because she doesn’t want any tension/aggressiveness because she prefers calm and centered personalities. The guys on the chopping block are Gary and Marcus and both survive. After elimination Stewart “carries” Kristy home.  Stewart’s is working really hard for this and it remains to be seen if all his efforts will be rewarded.

And there you go…. The latest episode of Labor of Love, airing Thursdays on Fox.  What do you think?  Should Keith have gone home?  Have you wondered why Stewart isn’t married already?
