Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller are Happily Childfree

Seth Rogen, you know him from The 40 Year Old Virgin, Super Bad, Pineapple Express,This is the End and currently starring in Pam and Tommy on Hulu.  He was on the Howard Stern show a few months ago where he spoke about he and his wife Lauren Miller not wanting to have children.  He said he wouldn’t be able to work as much if he had to also juggle his responsibilities as a parent. episode 2

What!  Wait a minute, I thought you could have it all! You could work, have kids and succeed exceptionally at all of it.  Isn’t that the bill of goods they sell women? Here we have a man saying he’s choosing his career over “having a family”.  Of course I define him, his wife and their dog Zelda as a family already.

During the interview he said "I don't know anyone who gets as much happiness out of their kids as we get out of our non-kids, like, we're fucking psyched all the time! We're laying in bed on Saturday mornings smoking weed, watching movies naked. If we had kids, we could not be fucking doing this.”  LOL!  Who is high-fiving Seth right now?  Me, this girl!  Ask your friends who are parents how they feel about what he said…. Are they jealous? I’m sure they are but if they are in the mommy mafia, they won’t admit it to you (or to themselves).

Stern admits "You can't be narcissistic, you have to give yourself over to parenting, and they've gotta become the priority," and Seth give the response all of us childfree by choice would give "Yeah, like, I don't want that. That does not sound fun to me.”  Funny thing is a lot of people have kids because they are narcissistic…they want a mini me, tiny humans to live out the dreams they weren’t able to achieve, to prove they can accomplish something.  And in turn they raise narcissists…

Seth also says "There's enough kids out there. We need more people? Who looks at the planet right now and thinks 'You know what we need right now? More fucking people.' That's truly a confounding thing to me.”  I totally agree! There are more than enough people in the world!  I live in an area where downtown parking is at a premium, mass transit and just regular old traffic is insane.  If there is an abundance of parking, empty mass transit and a lack of traffic where you live, let me know!

Seth and his wife have been married for 10 years and are very happy with their childfree life.  Back on 2019, he appeared on another podcast and at the time said having children was an open conversation with his wife.  He said “We’ve gone from people who just haven’t had kids to people who don’t have kids. It honestly makes it more fun in some ways because it’s like, ‘Man, no one we know is doing this shit. We can just do whatever we want.  Not that we even do that much!” he clarified. “My wife did a puzzle for eight hours straight the other day while just watching Peaky Blinders. If you have kids, that’s psychotic to think about. I’ve been building a Lego Ghostbusters thing for weeks. If you have a kid, you can’t do that! Your kid will destroy it. It would get all fucked up. It’s just one of the million things you can’t do. ”  Listen, my husband and I hang out with Seth and Lauren.  I love puzzles!

Even Seth Rogen is not immune to the opinions of the parental mafia-  he said “A lot of people [try to convince us to have kids] because they seem to like their kids, people get joy from it and they feel as though I don’t have that joy. I appreciate that. I’m pretty at peace.”  I don’t know who would ever think Seth Rogan doesn’t have joy in his life - have you seen his dog?  Those vases and jars he makes?  If you haven’t, please go to his Instagram page! The movies he’s producing? Look there is there is joy all over the place with this guy!

This is what we need to see more of, celebrities, people with influence celebrating being childfree, living amazing lives without kids.  It’s not something we see often, celebrities not apologizing about living childfree.  Turns out his wife wants kids less that he does, (Lauren, you’re now a friend in my head!) although Seth admitted he could have been talked into it, but he’s very happy without children.  I wonder if anyone has said to Lauren - you know he wants kids and you’re depriving him of being a father…. That sounds crazy right, but someone actually said this to me…. About my husband whom they didn’t even know!  Last night, I was watching Bob Hearts Abishola and one of the characters said that to Abishola when she said her and Bob were not going to have children - insert eye roll.  I guess it’s not just me.  Seeing more images of happy people without children would help alleviate the pressure us regular folk get about procreating.  We can point at Seth and Lauren and say look at them. Unapologetically childfree!  Normalizing that this is a choice for anyone.  Silencing the mommy mafia with their recruiting efforts.  Like Seth said it doesn’t look like fun.  And I‘m all about having more fun and doing it without children.

How about you?

Are you having fun?

I hope so!
